How to add date stamps to photos
To add the original date taken to multiple photos, select the images below and keep EXIF capture date as the date source. The tool reads each photo’s own date. If it is missing, choose a custom date or a missing-date rule; file modification time is never substituted for capture time.
Choose your photos
Select photos with EXIF capture dates, or photos that you want to label with a custom date.
Check the date source
Use EXIF capture date or explicitly enter a custom date. Pick the display format, position, and optional time correction in minutes.
Review missing dates and export
Check any missing-date messages. Skip the date label, use your chosen fallback date, or report an error, then download the results.

A visible date, with an explicit source
This synthetic image has no camera metadata. The example deliberately uses the custom date 2026-10-18, which is drawn into the image. It is an illustration, not a verified capture time.
Keep each photo’s date
The shared style does not force every image to use the same date. In EXIF mode, each image supplies its own DateTimeOriginal or CreateDate value.
Handle absent metadata honestly
Social and messaging apps may remove capture metadata. Choose a custom date, skip the date label, or flag the image. The tool does not guess from the file’s modification date.
Visible stamp and metadata are separate
A date stamp is drawn into the image. Keeping hidden metadata is a separate export setting that currently requires JPEG. A visible timestamp is not proof of authenticity or a certified time.
Frequently asked questions
Can I batch add the original date taken to photos?
Yes, when the photos contain readable EXIF capture dates. Select EXIF capture date as the source. Each photo uses its own date rather than the date of the current batch.
What happens if a photo has no EXIF date?
The default is to skip its date label and show a message. You can choose a custom fallback date or report the missing date as an export error. File modification time is not used as capture time.
Can I add a date to a photo that was already taken?
Yes. Open the existing file and choose its EXIF capture date or enter a custom date. The original is not changed; the stamp is rendered on a new copy.
Can I show both date and time?
Yes. Choose YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm in Date & sequence. Other options include YYYY-MM-DD, DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, and YY.MM.DD.
Does the date stamp prove when a photo was taken?
No. Capture metadata can be incorrect or edited, and custom dates are user-supplied. The tool does not provide trusted timestamps, identity verification, or certified evidence.
