Add filenames to photos in a batch

Put each photo’s own filename on the image, automatically. Use a clean footer or an overlay, add sequence numbers, and export the whole set for free.

How to add filenames to photos

To print filenames on photos, select your images below. The filename preset reads each file’s name and draws it in a footer. Use {filename} without the extension, {fullname} with it, or {index} for a sequence number. This labels image pixels; it does not rename the source files.

  1. Select the files to label

Choose the photos you want to print, identify, or share. Each image keeps its own name in the queue.

  2. Choose the label content

The default {filename} variable omits the extension. Add {fullname}, {index}, or a fixed prefix, and choose a footer or an overlay position.

  3. Export labeled copies

Preview individual labels and download the results. Your original images and filenames remain unchanged.

A different label for every file

The synthetic source file is named sample-1.png. The local engine expands {filename} to sample-1 and prints it below the image. Long labels are scaled to fit.

Label the image, not just the file

The text becomes part of the exported image and stays visible when printed or viewed outside a file manager. The source file’s name is not changed.

Combine names and sequence numbers

Use {filename} for the name without its extension, {fullname} for the complete name, and {index} for an adjustable padded number. Example: Proof {index} — {filename}.

Match custom labels with CSV

Import a CSV with filename, text columns and use {label} in a text layer. Names must match exactly. Duplicate CSV filenames are rejected; missing labels stay empty.

Frequently asked questions

How do I automatically print each photo’s filename on the image?

Select multiple photos in this tool and keep {filename} in the text layer. Each image receives its own filename. The default footer leaves the photo area clear.

Does this rename my files?

No. It draws the filename into a new image. You can separately choose a prefix or suffix for the exported files, while the originals remain unchanged.

Can I remove the extension from the printed filename?

Yes. Use {filename} to omit .jpg, .png, or another extension. Use {fullname} if you want the extension shown.

Can I add sequential numbers to photos?

Yes. Add {index} to the layer text, then set the start number and number padding under Date & sequence. Numbers follow the current photo queue.

Can I print filenames without uploading private photos?

Yes. Filenames and images are read locally. Neither is sent to the discovery API, and presets do not save your image files.
